Safe In Your Hands - Commission for The London Memorial Hospital, South Kensington, London

Commission for The London Memorial Hospital, South Kensington, London

Safe in Your Hands

205 x 150cm

Safe In Your Hands is a meticulously conceived collage commissioned by Ackerman Studios for Memorial Houston Medical Editor-in-Chief, Danny Shebaclo. This piece is a visual tribute to the deep connection between hospitals and the cities they serve, blending elements of Houston, Texas—where the hospital's founding family originates—and the cultural richness of South Kensington, London, where MHM London Hospital stands.

Through hundreds of carefully cut and layered images, the collage captures the elegant Victorian architecture, world-renowned museums, and lush green spaces that define South Kensington. The incorporation of fauna, foliage, and iconic landmarks reflects the borough’s vibrancy, symbolising both the strength of the city and the nurturing role of the hospital within it.

Standing outside the hospital amongst the giant healing crystals, the gold statues of Apollo and Ceres serve as guardians of its mission. Apollo, the god of the sun, healing and light, represents knowledge, medicine, and the pursuit of wisdom, while Ceres, the goddess of nourishment and growth, embodies care, sustenance, and the life-giving force of nature. Together, they symbolise the harmonious fusion of science and compassion, reinforcing the hospital’s role as both a centre of medical expertise and a sanctuary of healing.

This artwork serves as a powerful reminder of the delicate balance between urban support systems and human care, illustrating the hospital’s unwavering commitment to safety, healing, and community and the city’s vital role in fostering an environment where both the mind and body can thrive.

At its core, Safe In Your Hands embodies the compassionate spirit of medicine, echoing the words of Socrates: “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”
